Forever Flower

  • Forever Flower

Amaranthine

Want to take a guess on what that word means?

(And yes, if you google it, that’s cheating. 👀)

Amaranthine is a word meaning ‘everlasting’ or ‘undying’. This word actually reminds me of two things. One of those things is a fake flower. You know like those kinds you use to decorate churches or funeral homes with?

The word Amaranthine sounds like a fancy dark red flower mixed in a bouquet of flowers that, like the word’s definition, will never die. Funny thing is if you look up this word, you’ll discover that the word Amaranthine is taking after a kind of flower that is rumored to last forever.

But you know what else lasts forever?

God’s love for us.

No matter what we have done or what we will do in the future, we can rest assured knowing that God will always love us. Think about John 3:16. God loved us so much that He sent His son to die for us.

Since Adam and Eve’s sin in the garden of Eden, God promised to provide a way for us to join in Heaven. Why? It’s obvious…He loves us and in sending Jesus He showed us not only His love, but also His power and plan.

Now, we as Christians shouldn’t take this for granted. In fact, if you read Romans, you’ll find that Paul asks an interesting question and provides an important answer. Romans 6:1-2:

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”

Or in other words, we shouldn’t continue to live in sin, even though God will continue to forgive us. In fact, we should do the opposite! If God loved us enough to send His son, why would we not want in return want to serve Him and avoid the thing that sent Jesus to the cross in the first place?

God’s love is amaranthine.

And for that, our thanks to Him should be amaranthine.

My challenge to you today is to thank God for His love, and…sneak the word amaranthine in a sentence. (Bonus points if you actually pronounce it right! 😂)
